They are good at getting things done, although they prefer starting to finishing. When I first started out MANY solar returns ago I used very wide orbs for major aspects, although always considerably less for minor ones.
There is also something to be said for different orbs for applying strengthening and separating weakening aspects. At a Rob Hand lecture back in he said that, for wide conjunctions in the 5-to degree range, it is probably more effective to consider the mid-point between the planets as the key sensitive point rather than the individual planets, and that "indirect" aspects that is, non-conjunctions seem to work for this as well.
