It is a woman's journey of self discovery, and sexual experience is one of the ways she finds out about herself. It does not equate sex with rebellion. Our heroine ventures to France with the conviction and strength to forge an authentic path for herself, one that is her own.
In doing so, she lays bare the truth on the page. Surely, this memoir is a much-needed addition to the female literary canon--a tale of a woman experiencing herself as sexual, rather than being depicted as an object of male sexual desire.
Is this a feminist novel? Yes, if the definition of feminist is "a woman who has taken control of herself and who wishes other women would do the same," as Erica Jong put it.

As the baby of five, I knew the middle child Suzanne as a big sister who by the time I was 7 was "poof", gone, out of the house only to return on holidays with a boyfriend or two. Reunited when I was 12 and she hosted me to travel Europe with her. We had such fun. Parents, of course, sweating bullets as she removed my Bucky Badger Wisconsin sweatshirt and taught me to don the cashmere gray crew necks of Paris.
Adventure is Suzanne's middle name and you will be treated to a literal whirlwind of childhood sexual fantasies played out into her adulthood. Get ready for lots of linguistic picture stories as you are alongside her on many a caper. Quick read, laughs, and shock and awe. Although middles are neglected, both by parents and researchers, they actually benefit from this in the long run.
They become more independent, think outside the box, feel less pressure to conform, and are more empathetic. This would be Suzanne. The author crossed my electronic path and i was intrigued, so i bought the book. It reminded me of My Secret Life, which the horny boys at college pored over, but with the added story of a young gal's decision to change countries and move to France.
That in itself is pretty cool. How many people from Buffalo decide to move to Paris? Just about every page has a sexual content, but i wasn't too shocked.

I would call the book somewhat charming. I think Suzanne White is a darn good writer and if the late Jimmy Breslin was honest with himself, i think he would grudgingly agree. One of the best memoirs I've read.
